Govt. Orders Indian OTT Platforms To Discontinue Pakistani Songs, Web Series, Movies, Podcasts And Other Content

Amid escalating political tensions, the Indian Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has directed all OTT and digital streaming platforms to immediately cease broadcasting any content originating from Pakistan.

Following the tragic Pahalgam terror attack and ‘Operation Sindoor’, tensions between India and Pakistan have intensified. In a major move, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has directed all OTT platforms and digital streaming services operating in India to immediately halt the distribution of Pakistani content.

In an advisory shared by ANI, it instructs platforms to discontinue all forms of Pakistani content including web series, films, music, podcasts, and other streaming media whether offered on a subscription basis or free.

“In the interest of national security, all OTT platforms, media streaming platforms and intermediaries operating in India are advised to discontinue the web-series, films, songs, podcasts and other streaming media content, whether made available on a subscription based model or otherwise, having its origins in Pakistan with immediate effect,” read the notice.

India first banned Fawad Khan’s upcoming film ‘Abir Gulaal’, then restricted Pakistani YouTube content and television dramas. Film Federations in India openly opposed the release of the film and have also warned the makers of taking action against them. Government then further also banned the Instagram accounts of prominent Pakistani figures who enjoyed massive popularity across the border making their accounts inaccessible to Indian users, including Hania Aamir, Mahira Khan, Atif Aslam, Fawad Khan, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, and cricketer Babar Azam.
