On this date in 1987, Alan Rickman appeared in the Broadway play of Les Liaisons Dangereuses, which helped to launch his career. He even won a Tony for his performance as the anti-hero Le Vicomte de Valmont. Throughout his career, he also received a Golden Globe and an Emmy, and despite his reputation for playing the "bad guy," he was also praised for his sensitive performances in films like Truly Madly Deeply and Love, Actually. He gained international recognition for his outstanding depiction of Professor Snape. When Alan passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2016, it devastated every Harry Potter enthusiast. Many people paid the actor tribute by using his movie line "always." In the Helene Leroux-designed Google Doodle, Rickman is seen with his eyebrows raised and surrounded by foliage. According to Leroux, it was an honour to honour Rickman's life and achievements in the picture. Pancreatic cancer caused Rickman's death in 2016 at the age of 69.
