Actor Genelia D’Souza who recently made her grand comeback to films with the Marathi hit Ved, recently revealed that she faced discouragement when planning her comeback after a decade-long break. In a panel discussion on women empowerment at Elle Impact she shared how people doubted on her return to the big screen.
Discouraged from Making a Comeback
Genelia who took a break from acting to focus on her family, recalls she was being told that her return to films would not succeed. However, she proved her critics wrong when Ved, the marathi film which starred her and her husband Riteish Deshmukh, became the second-highest-grossing Marathi film after Sairat.
She said, “People told me, ‘Oh, you want to come back to films after 10 years? It won’t work.’ But my comeback film became a cult hit. We shouldn’t listen to people.”
The actor also speaks up on how she does not give much importance to success or failure. She said, “We hype our success too much and stress over failures. The true impact and intent of our daily life matter more.”

Focus on Family and Entrepreneurship
When Genelia was away from the film industry she was focused on raising her children and in business with her husband. She revealed that Riteish motivated her to work and to make their children best in all manners. This thought process led them to launch Imagine Meats, a plant-based meat brand.
She explained, “As someone who was used to a non-vegetarian diet, I struggled with sustainable choices. That’s how Imagine Meats was born for those who consume meat but want better alternatives.”
Genelia’s Next Film with Aamir Khan
On the work front, Genelia is set to appear alongside Aamir Khan in Sitaare Zameen Par, a film inspired by the Spanish movie Champions. The film is considered a spiritual sequel to Taare Zameen Par but with a humorous take on its theme.
Speaking about the project, Aamir said, “Taare Zameen Par made you cry, but Sitaare Zameen Par will make you laugh. It’s about people with different abilities, but this time, through humour.”
