Gayatri Devi, wife of renowned actor Raaj Kumar dies after battling illness for a period, she departed peacefully, with her children providing close care during her ailment.
During 60s, Raaj Kumar married Jennifer Pandit, an Anglo-Indian woman whom he reportedly met during a flight where she served as an air hostess. It is noted that she later adopted the name Gayatri Kumar in accordance with Hindu customs. The couple shared three children – sons Puru Raaj Kumar, Panini Raaj Kumar, and daughter Vastavikta Pandit who made herher cinematic debut in the 2006 film ‘Eight: The Power of Shani.’
Raaj Kumar’s Journey
Raaj Kumar stumbled into the film industry when veteran filmmaker Sohrab Modi spotted him during a visit to Metro cinema and offered him a film role. Despite his initial reluctance, Raaj Kumar eventually made his acting debut in the movie “Rangeeli” in 1952, marking the beginning of a stellar career in Indian cinema.

His impactful performances included roles in significant films like the Oscar-nominated “Mother India” in 1957. With over 70 Hindi films to his credit, Raaj Kumar became a prominent figure in Bollywood. His talent earned him a Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of a cancer patient in “Dil Ek Mandir.”

In a reunion after 30 years, Raaj Kumar and Dilip Kumar shared the screen in “Saudagar.” Despite their on-screen chemistry, off-screen reports suggest they never conversed except during their scenes. Raaj Kumar passed away at 69 due to throat cancer on July 3, 1996.
