‘The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3’ has taken over almost everyone’s social media, whether you watched the show or not. The series has divided the internet into two groups, Team Conrad and Team Jeremiah, as they are eagerly waiting to see what will be protagonist Belly’s choice. Now, actor Gavin Casalegno, who plays Jeremiah Fisher, is opening up about the backlash his character has received online.
In an interview with The New York Times, Casalegno admitted that Jeremiah isn’t exactly a fan favorite among Conrad loyalists.
“They tend to dislike him, yes,” he said. “I don’t check Instagram anymore, so I really haven’t seen that much hate. The only thing that I see is my sister sending me the memes that are really funny. I think it’s important to also understand and realize that this is a fictional story, and it’s also not me.”
Casalegno even revealed that some fans approach him in person just to say how much they “hate” Jeremiah.
The actor also spoke about how overwhelming fan negativity can get, stressing that no one should have to shoulder such emotional weight. “I don’t think there’s a single human being in the world who can carry the emotional negativity to the degree that stuff like this happens. And I think that’s why Amazon did a good job of stepping in and being like, ‘Hey, no bullying.’ Though, not really going so well,” Casalegno admitted.
