New Delhi: Alia Bhatt gained immense praise for the performance in Gangubai Kathiawadi. The Sanjay Leela Bhansali movie, caught itself into many controversies, even boycott calls from a section of social media users.
Gangubai Kathiawadi might make the cut to Oscar nominations
But as per the latest buzz. SLB’s Gangubai featuring Alia Bhatt is one of the few films that’s in contention to be India’s official entry for the Oscars this year.
The film, that was loosely built on the life of Ganga Jagjivandas Kathiawadi, also garnered a standing ovation from the audience at the Berlin Film Festival.
Gangubai Kathiawadi also stars Ajay Devgn, Shantanu Maheshwari, Vijay Raaz, Indira Tiwari, Seema Pahwa and Varun Kapoor in pivotal roles.
Gangubai Kathiawadi trended at #1 in Non-English films globally on Netflix and in the Top 10 in 25 countries from Australia, Canada to the United Kingdom. Gangubai Kathiawadi was released on February 25, 2022.
Well, the Oscar announcements are expected to be made a couple of months from now. But it is not the first time that an SLB film is going for the nominations in Oscars. Earlier, Bhansali’s Devdas was chosen as India’s official entry to the Oscars. The film starred Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Madhuri Dixit Nene.

Meanwhile, according to Variety Magazine, RRR’s Jr NTR could be a possible contender for the Oscars. The magazine has listed Jr NTR (Unranked-Alphabetical) in the ‘Best Actor category, in its Oscar prediction list. RRR also featured Ram Charan in the lead and Ajay Devgn and Alia Bhatt in side roles.
Coming to Alia Bhatt, after garnering much praise for her debut production Darlings, the actress is all ready for her upcoming release Brahmastra along with Ranbir Kapoor.
