Game Changer Review: S Shankar’s directorial ‘Game Changer’ has been making headlines ever since its announcement and has now kickstarted the line-up of big-budgeted releases in 2025. Starring Ram Charan in the dual role, the movie revolves around an IAS officer on a mission to stop corruption. Despite having good intentions, the magic of S Shankar does not reflect on the big screen. Know what works, and what does not work for ‘Game Changer’ to decide if you should give it a go in theatres.
Game Changer Review:
Positive
‘Game Changer’ starts on a strong note, immediately capturing my attention with the world created by S Shankar. From Ram Charan’s charming entry to some physics-law-defying yet entertaining action scenes, the beginning grabbed my interest right away. The song ‘Raa Macha Macha’, used for the introduction of Ram Charan’s character, is electrifying and the actor leaves no stone unturned to sweep you off with charm. The movie is also visually pleasing, with the classic vibrancy used in S Shankar’s films.
Negative:
‘Game Changer’ is full of cliches and overused tropes of fighting for justice, which does not work in its favour. Ram Charan’s character says ‘unpredictable’ after his every clever move against the antagonist. However, the movie is nothing but ‘predictable’ and this previously successful blueprint of a mass commercial fails miserably here. The excitement, with which I started watching ‘Game Changer’, faded away in the second half.
Even though the songs have catchy tunes, dance numbers like ‘Jaragandi’ and ‘Dhop’ add zero contribution to the film’s storyline and completely distracted me from the plot. Meanwhile, the excessive zooms and odd camera angles are bothersome to watch.
Talking about the plot, ‘Game Changer’ seems like an amalgamation of several hit mass commercials and tries to check all the boxes but fails. The movie does not have any originality and gave me flashbacks of ‘Baahubali’, ‘Nayak’, ‘Devara’, ‘Enthiran’, and much more.
Many characters seem like caricatures and are merely there for comic relief. The antagonists are one-dimensional and also stereotypical.
Performances:
Ram Charan absolutely shines in this movie and carries the film on his shoulder. His performance as Appanna is endearing and he beautifully portrays some heart wrenching scenes. SJ Suryah as Bobbili Mopidevi is truly psychotic and is entertaining to watch but his character falls prey to stereotypical villains seen in political dramas. Meanwhile, Kiara Advani as Deepika acts as an anchor to Ram’s character but remains limited to being a love interest. Anjali’s role as Parvathy is also impressive and looks charming on the big screen.

Final Thoughts:
Game Changer is a lazy attempt to make a mass commercial film by using already-hit cliche tropes. Despite having good performances, the movie falls flat and has nothing exciting to offer.
