Amid the speculations sparked by the reports about a bank issuing an e-auction notice for Sunny Deol’s property due to unpaid dues, which the bank later retracted citing technical errors.
Now, filmmaker Suneel Darshan, known for collaborating with Sunny Deol on movies like “Lootere” and “Ajay,” has come forward claiming that Sunny Deol owes him over Rs 77 lakh.
In an interview with a Hindi daily, Suneel Darshan recounted the origin of the dispute, tracing it back to 1996 when they worked together on the film “Ajay.” At that time, Sunny Deol expressed his intention to establish an international film distribution company and requested the rights to their film “Ajay.”
Convinced that he would receive payment from London, Sunny obtained the necessary documents from Suneel and assured him that he would be paid once he had the film prints.
As per Suneel’s account, Sunny Deol repeatedly ignored his payment requests and would offer excuses when confronted. Sunny allegedly cited personal issues for the non-payment and would promise to settle the dues in various cities where they met.
Later, Sunny sought Suneel’s assistance for a film production he was working on and proposed compensating the pending dues after the film’s completion. Trusting Sunny’s words, Suneel agreed. However, the film was never finished, and Suneel did not receive any payment. After pursuing Sunny for four years without success, Suneel took the matter to court.
During the legal proceedings, Sunny Deol claimed financial constraints and proposed making a film with Suneel to cover the dues. However, according to Suneel, Sunny consistently found reasons to delay or alter plans, eventually revealing what Suneel considered to be a lack of intention to pay him back.
Despite attempts at an out-of-court settlement, the case remains unresolved and is ongoing in the courts. The total amount owed to Suneel Darshan by Sunny Deol is reportedly Rs 77,25,000.
