Last Performance on Stage

During his last concert in Kolkata, KK performed a series of songs, not just in Hindi but in Tamil and Telugu as well. One of the students from Gurudas College who attended the concert told Hindustan Times about his performance: “He performed one song after another on the stage. A huge number of people gathered to see him. It is unbelievable that he is no more. I met him at such a show during the initial days of my college when I told him that today, he instantly recognized me,” recalled Shibasis Banerjee.

Several other fans like her took to social media to share clips from the concert, but what caught everyone’s attention was the last song that he performed. Ironically, his last words on stage were “Yaad Aaenge Ye Pal,” which are lyrics of his popular song ‘Pal.’ Fans could not believe that unintentionally, KK bid them goodbye in the way best known to him.

Speaking about how it’s always a pleasure to see his fans excited, he said, “By God’s grace, people love me so much. Just now, I stepped out of my car, and there were people in thousands cheering for me, showering their love. It’s very overwhelming for me. I can only thank them for all this love. Main bass koshish karta rahunga ki unke liye gaane gaata rahunga.”

He ended the interview by singing his song ‘Yaaron Dosti’ and added, “Bass yahi yaad rakhiye.”

Last song recorded by KK

Singer KK, who passed away on May 21, 2022, in Kolkata, recorded his last song for the film ‘Sherdil: The Pilibhit Saga‘. Titled ‘Dhoop Paani Bahne De,’ the song was penned by legendary lyricist Gulzar and composed by Shantanu Moitra.

After the song’s release, which made fans emotional, Gulzar shared the story of working with KK and their last meeting. “Srijit has done me a favour in ‘Sherdil.’ Not only did I get to write for such a beautiful film, I got to meet KK after ages. KK had first sung a song of mine in ‘Maachis,’ ‘Chhor aaye hum woh galiyan…’ When he came to sing the song for Sherdil, it filled my heart with joy, but it’s a shame that this had to go down as one of his last songs. It’s like he came to say goodbye,” he had told a media organisation.
