Director Vikam Bhatt and his wife, Shwetambari Bhatt were arrested by Rajasthan and Mumbai Police after the couple reportedly duped Rs 30 crore from IVF owner for the sake of making a biopic.

Filmmaker Vikram Bhatt has been arrested in an alleged fraud case involving Rs 30 crore. The Rajasthan Police and Mumbai Police jointly arrested him at his sister-in-law’s residence. The Rajasthan Police will now seek transit remand from the Bandra Court to take him to Udaipur for further questioning. This move comes after a lookout notice was issued against Vikram Bhatt, his wife Shwetambari Bhatt, and six others. They have been asked to appear before the Udaipur Police by December 8 and have been barred from travelling abroad without permission.

Filmmaker Vikram Bhatt’s wife arrested in Rs 30 crore fraud case

According to ETimes, the case began when Dr Ajay Murdia, founder of Indira IVF Hospital, filed a complaint alleging that he was coerced into investing over Rs 30 crore (approximately $300 million) in a film project. He was allegedly promised profits of up to Rs 200 crore (approximately $200 million). About 20 days ago, an FIR was filed against Vikram Bhatt, his wife, and six others at the Bhupalpura police station.

What is the dispute between Vikram Bhatt and Dr Murdia?

According to the FIR, Vikram Bhatt agreed to make a biopic on Dr Murdia’s late wife and promised to handle all the work. As production progressed, Vikram Bhatt allegedly demanded money and claimed his wife and daughter were partners. A company named VSB LLP was registered in Shwetambari Bhatt’s name for the project.

Vikram Bhatt has called the allegations fabricated and has made a film titled ‘Tumko Meri Kasam’. Dr. Murdia first sought help from Dinesh Kataria, and on Kataria’s advice, he met with Vikram Bhatt at Vrindavan Studios in Mumbai on April 25, 2023.

During this meeting, they discussed making a biopic. The film, titled ‘Tumko Meri Kasam,’ was released in March 2025, starring Esha Deol and Anupam Kher. Subsequently, in November, Vikram Bhatt denied these allegations in an interview with NDTV.

He said, “I have read the FIR, and I think it is misleading. The police are completely misled because the contents of the FIR are completely false. Obviously, they must have fabricated and forged some documents. I don’t know exactly what, but there must be something they used to convince the police.”

Vikram Bhatt’s claim

Vikram Bhatt also claimed that Dr. Murdia abruptly halted production on another film, titled “Virat,” and withheld payments to the technicians involved. The matter is still under investigation.
