Sonu Sood’s directorial debut, Fateh, had a challenging start at the box office, despite its action-packed premise and an ensemble cast that includes Jacqueline Fernandez, Vijay Raaz, Naseeruddin Shah, and Dibyendu Bhattacharya. The movie, which also marks Sonu’s first collaboration with Jacqueline, is a high-stakes action thriller focusing on Fateh, a former special operations officer with a dark past who takes on a cybercrime syndicate. Despite impressive trailers and songs, the film has received mixed reviews from both audiences and critics.
Fateh Struggles To Make an Impact On Day 1
On its opening day, Fateh earned Rs. 2.45 crore at the box office, as per Sacnilk’s report. Though this figure may seem modest, it was just Rs. 15 lakh short of surpassing the lifetime collection of Sonu Sood’s 2016 release Tutak Tutak Tutiya, which also featured Prabhu Deva and Tamannaah Bhatia. However, this lackluster performance highlights the movie’s struggle to attract substantial footfall despite the star power of Sonu Sood and Jacqueline Fernandez.
The film also marked Jacqueline Fernandez’s lowest Bollywood opener post-COVID-19. With a first-day collection of Rs. 2.45 crore, this performance places Fateh as her second-lowest Bollywood debut since the pandemic, after her 2022 Kannada film Vikrant Rona, which earned Rs. 1.1 crore in the Hindi market on its opening day.
BTS: Comparisons To ‘Animal’ And Action Sequences Explained
Sonu Sood recently addressed comparisons between Fateh and the Ranbir Kapoor starrer Animal. He explained in an interview with India Today that technical constraints led to the reuse of action sequences, where around 70-80 fighters were involved. Due to a lack of sufficient replacements, many fighters from the earlier sequences were cast again wearing masks. While this decision was primarily driven by logistical reasons, Sonu acknowledged the potential for audiences to draw comparisons with Animal due to similar action elements.
As Fateh faces a slow response, the coming days will be crucial for the film’s box office performance, as it competes for audience attention in a competitive festive season.
