EXCLUSIVE| Shatrughan Sinha Speaks On ‘India’s Got Latent’ Controversy: ‘I’ve Never Uttered A Single Vulgar Word’!

Shatrughan Sinha addresses the 'India's Got Latent' controversy, criticizing rising vulgarity in digital content and urging responsible influence.

Veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha has expressed deep concern over the increasing vulgarity in digital content, following the recent uproar surrounding YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia’s remarks on the show ‘India’s Got Latent’. Shatrughan emphasizes the need for lawful measures to curb such content on the internet.

Upholding Ethical Standards In Entertainment

Reflecting on the current scenario, Shatrughan observes a significant shift in the ethical boundaries of content creation. He notes, “This recent controversy has made me think about the ethical boundaries which are being crossed with impunity. Nobody seems to care about his responsibility as an influencer.” Shatrughan contrasts this with the past, stating that during his era, prominent actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Rajesh Khanna, Dharmendra, and himself were never given double-meaning dialogues. “No filmmaker would dare,” he asserts.

Shatrughan points out the expanded spectrum of celebrities in the digital age, highlighting that many with powerful online voices misuse their influence. He remarks, “Now the spectrum of celebrities has broadened. There are people with a powerful voice on the internet. And they are misusing their voice.”

The ‘India’s Got Latent’ Controversy

The controversy centers around Ranveer Allahbadia, popularly known as BeerBiceps, who, during an episode of ‘India’s Got Latent’, posed an inappropriate question to a contestant. The remark led to widespread backlash, multiple police complaints, and discussions in Parliament about regulating digital content. Ranveer has since apologized, and the show’s host, Samay Raina, has removed the related content. The Supreme Court criticized Ranveer Allahbadia’s conduct but shielded him from arrest, highlighting concerns over freedom of expression in India’s digital media landscape.

Respecting Cultural Values

Drawing from his experience portraying antagonistic roles, Shatughan emphasizes that past villains maintained decorum. “Back during the time when I played the villain, I never said anything leery or disrespectful towards women,” he recalls. He urges content creators to respect cultural values, especially concerning family. “Nowadays, people are bringing parents into their humor-net to get attention. Please spare the parents. They are considered to be next only to God in our culture,” Shatrughan appeals.

In light of these events, Shatrughan advocates for a balanced approach to content creation, urging influencers to exercise responsibility and uphold the dignity of individuals and families in their work.
