Rajesh Kumar has been a popular face in the Indian television industry and has slowly created a successful career on OTT and films as well. He has completed 25 years in showbiz and is looking forward to doing many memorable roles. In an exclusive interview with News24, Rajesh looks back at his 25 years of prominent career and his iconic roles. He also recalls how he was offered two big shows but couldn’t do it due to his other work commitments.
While speaking to us about his acting roles, The ‘Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai’ star reveals that he was offered ‘Bhabi Ji Ghar Par Hai!’ and ‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’ but had to reject them. He tells us, “There were two big shows which were offered to me and one of them was ‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’. But I could not do it because I was already committed to ‘Baa Babu Aur Baby’. There is no regret of not doing that show but a positive aspect is that I was able to do many characters in films and OTT because I was not committed to a show.”
“The same thing happened with ‘Bhabhi Ji Ghar Par Hain’. I had already signed up for a show called ‘Neeli Chhatri Wale’ and was offered ‘Bhabhi Ji’ two days later. That show has also been so successful for the past 10 years,” he further adds.
But Rajesh does not have any regret of rejecting two big shows as he went on to do other memorable and versatile roles later on. He adds, “There is not even an ounce of negative feelings or guilt in me.”
On the work front, Rajesh has been seen in back to back successful projects. He was recently seen in the web series ‘Freedom At Midnight’, which is based on the book of the same name, and played the role of Pakistan’s first Prime Minister Liaquat Ali Khan. In 2024, he also worked in the movie ‘Rautu Ka Raaz’ and ‘Binny And Family’.
