Actor and model Nitin Chauhan was shaken after several media houses used his pictures along with the obituary of another actor of the same name, Nitin Chauhaan, who was found dead in his Goregaon apartment on November 6. The grave mistake left him and his entire family disturbed, and that’s when Nitin decided to share a video on his official Instagram handle (@nitinchauhanofficial) to call this out and clear the confusion. The video was posted on November 14, almost a week after the unfortunate incident.
When asked why he took so much time to clarify things, Nitin shared that he had no idea that the matter would escalate so much. “I did not react initially because I felt things would die down or someone or the other would realize the mistake and rectify it. However, the opposite happened, and people continued doing stories on me as well as my family. It went out of control when they began to use my pictures with my mother, which was very disturbing,” he shares.
Things did not stop there. Nitin tells us exclusively that several reporters went to his house to ask his parents about the untimely death. “My parents were telling them that it’s fake news, but you know how bad that situation is where your parents have to answer such questions. In situations like these, you don’t know what to do, how to react. You turn numb,” he said and added, “That’s when I decided to post a video and set the record straight.”
On how the news affected his family, Nitin further tells us, “Things intensified by the day, and people continued to call me and my parents. The news was more disturbing for my mother because I had lost a brother many years back. Despite my explaining the entire confusion to her, she could not control her emotions and had several breakdowns. Even my father got down with fever on hearing the news.”
Nitin recalled the day this confusion happened and share with us us that he did not even know the whole story until the next day. “The photos got published on November 7, but I got to know about it only the next day. It was because I was working till late and slept at 6 in the morning. My phone was on silent, so I had no idea what was happening outside in the world. When I woke up, my phone was flooded with messages and calls from relatives, friends, and family. I could not understand what was happening until a college friend called me and told me everything.”
“First thing I did after that was call my mom and explain the entire situation to her. I told her not to watch the news, but being a mother, she was still very heartbroken. I didn’t want her to know, but I had to tell her. Every time she saw the news on her phone, she would get upset,” he shares.
But this is not the first time that he got confused with the other Nitin Chauhaan who passed away. “Some time back, I was named one of India’s 50 Most Desirable Men as well as one of the Top 10 Male Models in India. An article had appeared in the newspaper, in which they had mentioned about MTV Splitsvilla and Dadagiri – shows done by the other Nitin. But we rectified it, and it never happened again,” he shared and ended the conversation saying he never thought that a confusion of this level could ever happen in his life.
Nitin’s Instagram Post
In his Instagram video, Nitin expressed his disappointment and said, “I extend my deepest condolences to the friends and family of Nitin Chauhaan on his passing. May Nitin rest in peace, and may his family find the strength to cope with the tragedy of his loss. It is imperative that social media and news sources are held accountable for the posting and dissemination of false information. Identifying two different individuals as the same person is highly irresponsible and has negatively impacted two families. All posts and media that include images of me stating ‘RIP’ are false, as I am very much alive.”
He added, “Please share this video to help stop the continued circulation of misinformation. All incorrect news and media, as well as any images or content suggesting my passing, must be retracted and removed from circulation immediately.”
