Music composer Siddharth Pandit is currently basking in the success of work in the latest web series ‘Bandish Bandits Season 2’. From receiving love with his original music project ‘Azaad Sangeet’ to bagging big projects, he has come a long way in the Indian music industry. In an exclusive interview with News24, Siddharth talks about how he created the blend of classical and modern music in Bandish Bandits 2, struggles while working on indie projects, experience of working with director Anand Tiwari and more.
Siddharth, whose original musical project ‘Azaad Sangeet’ became a success, reveals being initially discouraged by the people in the industry to create independent music. He shares, “When I started Azaad Sangeet in 2019, it was one of the first independent albums that came in our country. Even independent music has become very saturated these days but when I was starting out, I faced a lot of repulsion from the industry people. I was also producing music for films like Uri and the other OTT shows. They were like, ‘why are you making independent music? There’s nothing in this. Do commercial work’.”
He adds, “But I was very adamant. I had a belief that this is something that I’m making and it was true to me. Without thinking I made a couple of songs and put them out. And luckily, it traveled far and reached the right kind of audience.”
Reacting to the response he received from the album, Siddharth tells us, “And from that album, it gave a lot of push to other artists to create more independent music. So, my purpose was to get other artists on board and make music with the people who were not so popular, but people who were insanely talented. It was a great project. It was something that brought together a community with it.”
While talking about creating the mix of classical and modern music for ‘Bandish Bandits Season 2’, Siddharth shares that he enjoyed that process and it was fun for him to experiment. He also praised director Anand Tiwari for giving him the creative liberty to create music for the show. Praising the filmmaker, he adds, “I think we were lucky enough, the director, Mr. Anand Tiwari is a great guy and has a great musical sensibility. He gave me a lot of freedom to just explore what I want to do. The casting for the music composers was great. They were all the people who had this intention to make the music that they wanted to listen to.”
