About Holi :
Holi is being celebrated across India with people coming together to enjoy colors, music, and traditional fun. From temples to streets, bright colors and happy celebrations mark the festival, which celebrates the victory of good over evil.
In Mathura and Vrindavan, known for their grand Holi celebrations, devotees began traditional rituals like the famous Lathmar Holi. Cities such as Varanasi, Jaipur, and Delhi saw people celebrating with colors, gujiya, and thandai. Authorities have deployed extra security to ensure the celebrations are peaceful.
Holi, also known as the Spring Festival, marks the arrival of spring and the harvest season. The festival is connected to Hindu mythology, symbolizing the win of good over evil. The celebration begins with Holika Dahan, where a bonfire is lit to mark the death of Holika, a symbol of evil. There is also a special prayer to burn away evil spirits.
The story behind Holi is linked to the Hindu myth of Demon King Hiranyakashyapu, who was angry with his son Prahlad for his devotion to Lord Vishnu. The king ordered his sister Holika to kill Prahlad, but she was burned in the fire instead, and Prahlad was saved, symbolizing the victory of good over evil.
