A brewing controversy has emerged between Divya Khossla and Karan Johar after Divya accused the team behind Jigra of copying elements from her May-released film, Savi. The Alia Bhatt-starrer Jigra hit theaters on October 11, sparking the accusations.
Karan Johar’s Cryptic Post
In response to the accusations, Karan Johar shared a cryptic Instagram post that appeared to subtly address the issue without directly mentioning Divya or her film. “Silence is the best speech you will ever give to fools,” Karan wrote, hinting that he prefers to stay quiet amid the controversy. Though he did not explicitly reference Divya, the timing suggested it was a reaction to her claims.
Divya Khossla’s Bold Reply
Divya quickly fired back with a sharp response on her Instagram story. She wrote, “When you are shamelessly accustomed to stealing what rightfully belongs to others, you will always seek shelter in silence. You will have no voice, no spine,” making it clear that she was not backing down and was standing her ground regarding the alleged similarities between Jigra and Savi.
Accusations of Fake Box Office Numbers
On October 12, Divya took things a step further by accusing Alia Bhatt and the Jigra team of faking box office numbers. She posted about attending a screening of Jigra at Citi Mall PVR, claiming the theater was empty and accusing Alia Bhatt of inflating ticket sales and announcing false box office collections.
The Films in Question
Divya’s film Savi tells the story of a housewife, played by Harshvardhan Rane, trying to free her husband from a high-security prison in England, inspired by the mythological tale of Savitri and Satyavan. Meanwhile, Jigra focuses on Alia Bhatt’s character who attempts a prison break to save her brother. While there are thematic similarities, Divya acknowledged that both films follow their own unique paths.
The feud has sparked considerable attention on social media, with both sides standing firm, making this one of the most talked-about Bollywood controversies in recent weeks.
