Shah Rukh Khan, had a phenomenal 2023 as all of his releases were huge success at the box office. Director and choreographer Farah Khan once disclosed that she had once wrote a script which was quite similar to his latest release ‘Dunki.’ She had presented the script to the ‘Pathaan,’ actor which he declined, citing that he felt “too old” for the role.
According to Farah, the script she had proposed earlier was an early version of ‘Happy New Year,’ featuring a narrative where four boys aimed to migrate to America through a dance competition. Remarkably, the storyline of ‘Dunki,’, also involves characters planning to relocate to the UK, through unconventional means.
“I wrote a version of Happy New Year that Shah Rukh did not like. That Happy New Year was about 4 boys who want to go to America and be tadipaar, and the only way they want to do it is if they take part in a dance competition because the finals are in Las Vegas. Then Shah Rukh said ‘I will look too old, I’m too old to play this young boy.” She said

She highlighted striking resemblance of this version to ‘Dunki’. Adding to the intrigue, online speculation had also surfaced suggesting that ‘Dunki’ might be a revamped version of ‘Munna Bhai Chale America,’ but in a recent interview, director Rajkumar Hirani revealed that both the films feature different stories.
Contrastingly, ‘Happy New Year’ took a different direction, evolving into a heist movie featuring an ensemble cast including Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Sonu Sood, Boman Irani, and Vivaah Shah, among others.
