In India alone, it has reached Rs 450 crore. So what happens next? The spy thriller is now aiming for Rs 1000 crore at the global movie office, a feat that has remained uncommon in Bollywood. Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, R. Madhavan, Sara Arjun, Rakesh Bedi, Saumya Tandon, and Gaurav Gera appear in the film Dhurandhar. While redefining the rules for a spy film, it remains a popular box office success.
Dhurandhar opposed fresh releases
Dhurandhar will enter its third week on Friday, December 19. It was released on December 5 and has refused to back down, outperforming every other film and prompting several (such as Ikkis) to change their release dates. However, as we enter Christmas week and the New Year approaches, many new films are being released. Do they threaten Dhurandhar?
Dhurandhar declines, but does it matter?
Dhurandhar experienced a visible drop on Day 13 (Wednesday). After earning Rs 30.5 crore net on Tuesday, it fell to Rs 25.50 crore. This is obvious because the movie’s daily numbers have increased. Dhurandhar has won every Monday except for the first and second (December 8 and 15). So, is the current dip cause for concern?
Dhurandhar against Avatar: Fire and Ash
This Friday marks the release of James Cameron’s highly anticipated film Avatar: Fire and Ash. With a strong hype about the Hollywood picture and the fact that this film is designed for a big screen experience due to its broad canvas and breathtaking visuals, Avatar 3 is sure to draw audiences to the theatres. This is likely to have an impact on Dhurandhar, which now controls nearly all of the screens in a theatre.
However, assessing Dhurandhar based on a single day’s decrease may be biased. On Day 11, the film grossed more than Rs 500 crore globally. It is now firmly aiming for Rs 1000 crore worldwide. Domestically, it has generated roughly Rs 524.5 crore gross, with receipts increasing as we type!
