Dharmendra and Hema Malini are the iconic on-screen and off-screen pair of Bollywood. What started out as a work opportunity soon turned into a love story for Dharmendra and Hema. However, their relationship faced many challenges and also attracted controversy. Take a look at the love story of the most loved couple in Bollywood.
Dharmendra and Hema Malini Love Story:
Dharmendra and Hema Malini met on the sets of the 1975 film ‘Tum Haseen Main Jawaan’. Their love story began on the film set but was surrounded by controversy as Dharmendra was already married.
The actor married his first wife, Prakash Kaur, at the age of 19 and already had four children. Despite this, the two could not help falling in love with each other. As per reports, Hema Malini’s father was also against the relationship. They dated for five years before tying the knot in 1980.
However, Prakash Kaur refused to divorce Dharmendra. As per reports, the actor converted to Islam to marry Hema Malini. This caused severe backlash, but Dharmendra maintained his stance of being a Hindu.
The couple have two daughters, Esha Deol and Ahaana Deol. Esha is also an actress and has worked in several popular movies, including Dhoom.
Meanwhile, Dharmendra and Prakash Kaur have four children: Sunny and Bobby Deol, who are actors, and two daughters, Vijeta and Ajeeta, who have kept themselves away from the spotlight.
Even though their relationship attracted backlash, Prakash Kaur stood by her husband. While speaking to Stardust, she slammed those who criticised Dharmendra and said, “Why only my husband? Any man would have preferred Hema over me.”
“How dare anyone call my husband a womaniser when half the industry is doing the same thing? He may not be the best husband, though he is very good to me, but he is certainly the best father. His children love him a lot. He never neglects them,” she added.
Prakash Kaur and Hema Malini have maintained a cordial relationship and have shown respect for each other.
