Television actor Dalljiet Kaur spoke to SCREEN regarding her emotional journey after the divorce with actor Shalin Bhanot in 2015. Their marriage ended on a bitter note, given that Dalljiet accused Shalin of domestic violence. In an open interview, Dalljiet narrated the difficulties she faced in rebuilding her life and discovering herself again.
A Love Story Turned Sour
Dalljiet and Shalin first met on the sets of Kul Vadhu, but it was after they did the dance reality show Nach Baliye that their chemistry really clicked. They got married soon after winning the show. Talking about their relationship, Dalljiet said, “We hardly got time to know each other. If we had, maybe things would have turned out differently.”
The Road to Healing
Dalljiet’s divorce filled her with much emotional turmoil. She said, “For 2-3 years, I used to be in denial. I would break with the word, and I could cry for ages. Jaydon was an infant then, and I couldn’t cope.” And it took close to nine years for her to feel ready enough to get married again.
Her journey involved redefining her concept of family and happiness. She stated, “I wanted Jaydon to see a normal family. I explored dating apps and kept searching for companionship.”
Second Marriage and New Challenges
In March 2023, Dalljiet married Kenya-based businessman Nikhil Patel, but the union ended within 10 months, with its legality still uncertain. This chapter added complexity to her journey, but she remains focused on moving forward.
