Vicky Kaushal, Rashmika Mandanna and Akshaye Khanna have teamed up for the historical war film ‘Chhaava’, which is promised to be Hindi Cinema’s biggest spectacle ever. The movie is all set to arrive on the big screens on February 14, 2025. However, the upcoming historical film Chhaava, directed by Laxman Utekar and starring Vicky Kaushal, has found itself in the midst of controversy.
What Sparked The Controversy?
The objection stemmed from concerns that the inclusion of a dance number in a historical film might dilute its authenticity and disrespect the legacy it seeks to portray. Raj Thackeray reportedly expressed his displeasure over the song, urging the makers to remove it to maintain the integrity of the story. The film is based on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, a revered Maratha warrior, and is highly sensitive to historical representation.
Laxman Utekar responded swiftly, choosing to remove the song from the film entirely. Speaking about the change, Utekar said, that he met with Raj Thackeray to discuss Chhaava and found his guidance invaluable. Praising Thackeray as a “studious and avid reader,” Utekar shared that he took suggestions from him, leading to the decision to remove scenes depicting Sambhaji Maharaj performing the lezim dance. The director emphasized that the adjustments were made to honor historical accuracy and ensure the film respects the legacy of the Maratha warrior as reported by India Today.
Despite the controversy, the makers are focused on delivering a powerful historical drama. The film has generated immense anticipation due to its subject matter and Kaushal’s involvement. The team’s decision to remove the song highlights their commitment to presenting a respectful and accurate portrayal of history.
