Vicky Kaushal’s highly awaited historical film Chhaava is getting a massive start at the box office, before its big Valentine’s Day release, the movie has already earned over Rs 13 crore from advance bookings, setting it up for a strong opening.
According to early estimates from Sacnilk.com, Chhaava has earned around Rs 13.78 crore from advance ticket sales. The film has sold over 4.87 lakh tickets across more than 14,000 shows nationwide. While the current advance booking total is Rs 13 crore, adding blocked seats is expected to bring the total to Rs 17.87 crore.
Experts believe Chhaava could make a huge Rs 23-25 crore on its first day, making it one of the biggest starts for a historical film. The movie is doing especially well in Maharashtra, where it has strong local support.
Trade analysts are assuming that if positive word of mouth follows the films release then Chhaava could emerge as a great success in Maharashtra.
The box office collection in Maharashtra is expected to be the highest, while the performance in other parts of the country is uncertain. Advance sales in most states, except Delhi, have struggled to reach Rs 1 crore.
Advance bookings show that the Hindi 2D version of Chhaava has made the most money, earning Rs 13.17 crore. The IMAX 2D version made Rs 41.55 lakh, and the ICE and 4DX versions earned over Rs 18 lakh together. Maharashtra alone has contributed around Rs 8.29 crore to the total pre-sales, showing strong interest in the film there.
Even though Chhaava is off to a good start, it has tough competition from Marvel’s Captain America: Brave New World, which is also releasing on February 14. While Chhaava is leading in advance bookings, it’s not clear if it will keep up the strong performance over the weekend.
