Anushka Sharma, who has been away from the limelight for quite some time, was supposed to make her comeback with ‘Chakda ‘Xpress’. However, the movie got delayed several times and is currently in a dud.
After the landmark victory of the Indian women’s team at the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, the makers are trying to push the film to release once again.
The film, produced by Clean Slate Filmz and initially ready for an OTT launch on Netflix a few years back, is reportedly now set to finally release following the women’s team’s title triumph. According to Mid-Day, the team reached out to Netflix’s executives to finalise some possibilities and a release strategy. A source told Mid-Day, “We have personally written to top executives at Netflix India to see the light of the day. A biopic on a legend like Jhulan di deserves to reach the audience”.
The origin of the film dates to 2019, followed by a filming schedule that was completed in late 2022. However, the release has been delayed for a long time, reportedly due to over-budget issues and creative differences between Clean Slate Filmz and Netflix.
While no official release date has yet been announced, the current timing now appears ideal. ‘Chakda ‘Xpress’ is based on the life of former Indian cricketer Jhulan Goswami. Her record-breaking tally of wickets has led her to gain legendary status in women’s cricket in India. The latest scenario also comes after Goswami’s emotional moment with the team and the trophy in the World Cup celebrations.
The movie also stars Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Renuka Shahane, Anshul Chauhan, Koushik Sen and Mahesh Thakur in the pivotal roles. It is written by Abhishek Banerjee and directed by Prosit Roy.
On the work front, Anushka was last seen in Zero in 2018. She also appeared in Qala in a cameo role, which was also produced by her.
