Renowned Indian screenwriter, lyricist, and poet Javed Akhtar revealed the reason behind not giving up on his religion even after being an atheist. In an interview, he stated that apart from being a Muslim, he has no other option than to give up his religion, he has to join another.
“But being an atheist, I cannot join any other religion too. He is connected to the Muslim religion only because he is born in the same family”, Akhtar said.
He clarified that while he does not follow any Muslim religious beliefs, being a Muslim is connected to him.

An atheist is an individual who does not believe in any religion.
When asked about celebrating festivals, the renowned Indian screenwriter said that he celebrates all occasions, as he does not believe in any particular religion.
Speaking over the social media trolling, Akhtar said that people troll him on social media as he believes in both Hindu and Muslim religion.
Furthermore, he said that Muslim extremists also call him Amar instead of Javed Akhtar, while Hindus call him Jihadi.

When asked about the funniest thing he heard of himself, Akhtar said that people called him Jihadi and asked me to go to Pakistan.
Renowned poet said that the trolling is fine till both sides are doing it. It will be concerning if the trolling is done just from one or if it stops from both sides.
Comparing atheists with gays, Akhtar said that these people are unable to accept atheism due to the pressure of society.
“It is similar to gay people as they live for 60 years but don’t have the fear of coming forward from the fear of the society”, he stated.
