Indian filmmaker Payal Kapadia continues to make the country proud on the international level. After winning the prestigious Grand Prix for her film ‘All We Imagine As Light’ (AWIAL), she has now again returned to the Cannes Film Festival 2025 but this time as a jury member.
During the conversation in the event, she reflected on the success o her film and also revealed insights about her upcoming project.

While speaking about the response that ‘All we imagine as light’ has get and the award, Dimple expressed her gratitude for the international support. She said: “Our film coming to Cannes and getting the recognition, and all of you (press) writing about it, really helped us to get the film out. Even the distribution in India was really helped by that. So, I’m really grateful. One thing as a filmmaker is that your film should be watched by your own country and everywhere else. So, that was a really big bonus for me.”
AWIAL Director Confirms Trilogy Plans
Further in the conversation, Payal has shared that she is working on two more films set in Mumbai, aiming to create a trilogy but she clarified that the upcoming films will have different characters from the last one.
She revealed: “I am right now working on two more films based on my city, which is Mumbai. So, to have like a trilogy but with different characters. It’s a city that is complex and full of contradictions. There’s a lot for me to explore still, and I need to get that out before I move on to anything else.”

About ‘All We Imagine As Light’
