Cannes 2023: An enormous event, the Cannes International Film Festival. The famed film festival will once again feature Indian films, as it does every year. India was the designated Country of Honour the previous year. The festival, which will last 10 days, started on May 16 and runs through May 27.

Celebrities like Esha Gupta, Sara Ali Khan, Manushi Chhillar, Guneet Monga, and many others walked the red carpet on the first day of the event. This year, the Indian delegation was led by Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting L Murugan.

Four Indian films, each competing in a different category, are slated to be exhibited at Cannes in 2023.

1. Kennedy: Midnight screenings’ section

Kennedy, directed by Anurag Kashyap and starring Sunny Leone, Rahul Bhat, and Abhilash Thapliyal, has been chosen for the Cannes Film Festival’s Midnight Screenings section. The movie’s central plot is around a former police officer who is thought to be dead yet is still looking for redemption. Dobaraa, Kashyap’s final film, featured Taapsee Pannu, Pavail Gulati, and Rahul Bhat.

2. Agra: Director’s fortnight section

At the 76th Cannes International Film Festival, Kanu Behl’s Agra will make its world premiere in the Director’s Fortnight Section. Agra looks at the sexual dynamics within a family and the significant rifts that are developing in modern India as a result of a lack of physical space. Rahul Roy, best known for his role in Aashiqui, will play the lead in the movie. Other cast members include Priyanka Bose, Vibha Chibber, Sonal Jha, Aanchal Goswami, Ruhani Sharma, and Mohit Agarwal, among others.

3. Nehemich: Short film section

Nehemich, a short film, will make its debut in the Short Film Section. Helmed by FTII alumni Yudhajit Basu, the film will be screened at the festival in the upcoming days. Nehemich delves into how society isolates menstruating women. The story is set against the backdrop of the Covid-19 pandemic.

4. Ishanou: Classic’s section

Ishanou, a 1990 movie by Aribam Syam Sharma, will be presented at the Cannes Film Festival in the Classic Section. It’s interesting to note that Cannes 2023 will be hosting this film for the second time. The movie had previously been shown in 1991 in the Un Certain Regard section.
