Superstar Rajinikanth has teamed up with blockbuster filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj for Coolie, one of the most anticipated releases of 2025. The film is set for a box office showdown with Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR’s War 2, both eyeing massive pan India openings this Independence Day.
But just days before Coolie’s big theatrical debut on August 14, trouble has struck. Reports surfaced that pirated versions of the film were already being targeted for illegal circulation online. Worried about the risk of piracy, the Madras High Court on August 11 issued a key order to stop the film from being leaked or streamed on illegal websites, as exclusively reported by The Hindu.
Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy issued an interim injunction restraining 36 Internet Service Providers (ISPs) across the country from allowing any websites to host pirated copies of Coolie. The order came after reviewing the film’s certification and confirming Sun TV Network Limited as the rightful producer. The court warned that without the injunction, the production would suffer “irreparable injury.”
The ban also covers five cable TV companies in Chennai, like Action Lane, JAK Communications, and Thamizhaga Cable TV, so they can’t show the movie illegally. Major ISPs such as BSNL, MTNL, Airtel, Vodafone, Idea, Hathway, Reliance Communications, Tata Teleservices, and others are bound by the court’s directive.
