Beyoncé’s ‘Cowboy Carter’ Tour Faces Legal Setback With Cease-And-Desist Notice

Beyoncé has been issued a cease-and-desist by the Sphere Entertainment Group for using unauthorized visuals of the Las Vegas Sphere during her Cowboy Carter tour.

Beyoncé has encountered legal trouble at the start of her “Cowboy Carter” tour, receiving a cease-and-desist letter from Sphere Entertainment Group (SEG). The company, headed by Madison Square Garden boss James Dolan has demanded to remove scenes from her show where she appears to grab and play with the Las Vegas Sphere.

Beyoncé began her concert tour in Los Angeles last week, but her production company, Parkwood Entertainment, is now accused of “impermissible use and violation” of SEG’s intellectual property rights. According to Page Six, SEG claims that Beyoncé appears to grab and manipulate the Sphere venue.

“Beyoncé – many orders of magnitude larger than the Sphere venue – leans over, picks up the venue, and looms over it,” wrote lawyer Kathleen McCarthy in the legal document. The lawyer emphasized that “SEG was never asked and the prominent appearance and manipulation of SEG’s Sphere venue in the video is unauthorized”.
