A demonstration of imagination and ideas. It is limitless, exquisite, and inestimable. Considering that art has the capacity to contain memories and feelings. It serves as a tool for comprehending the time and place of its creation.

Many artists have voiced their opinions of national interest through their art. One such artist is Varun Grover.

Who is Varun Grover? 

A writer, stand-up comedian and poet, Varun Grover is one name that has resonated with every Indian. If Masaan and Gangs of Wasseypur changed your outlook towards Hindi cinema, you ought to give a fair share of credit to Grover. Udta Punjab, Newton, Raman Raghav 2.0, and many more to the list, he is credited for brining a new range of films to India.

Coming from a Punjabi family, Varun Grover spent his initial years in Uttarakhand. He studied civil engineering at Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi, graduating in 2003. After working with a software firm in Pune for some time, Varun Grover left his job to pursue his passion – the movies, or more precisely, writing Hindi film screenplays and song lyrics.

Varun Grover Work 

Varun Grover was awarded the Best Lyricist award at the 63rd National Film Award for the song Moh Moh Ke Dhaage. He started his career as a  dialogue writer with Accident on Hill Road (2009), after which he wrote the lyrics for Gangs of Wasseypur (2012) and its sequel Gangs of Wasseypur 2. Grover Caught public attention after Masaan’s release. Masaan, which is set in Varanasi and is a portrayal of class and gender inequalities of a town struggling to come to terms with the possibilities of the future.

Varun Grover left his well-established corporate career to make a name in Bollywood. Talking about being an outsider in Bollywood, he once said, “There are three things you need to survive in Mumbai talent, patience and luck. The first two are in your hands. You have to work in it. You have to hone your talent to reach a stage where you can be confident. I went to Mumbai in 2000 and I wrote Masaan in 2011, so it took me time.”

Aisi Taisi Democracy 

Varun Grover has his fingers in many pies. The ex-IIT engineer, aside from being a stand-up comic, has established a prolific political satire group named Aisi Taisi Democracy. Part stand-up comedy, part-musical and part-biting diatribe on socio-political issues, Aisi Taisi Democracy presents refreshing satire on issues related to national interests.
