After Baahubali The Beginning in 2015 and its sequel Baahubali The Conclusion in 2017, the fusion of the two versions of Baahubali now comes to movie theatres on October 31.
Going by the trickle of advance booking numbers, there are not many takers for S S Rajamouli’s Baahubali The Epic. With a playing time of a staggering 3 hours and 45 minutes, the period action drama is a big turnoff for both the trade and the box office.
One prominent personnel from Mumbai’s leading multiplex chain says there is minimal interest in watching a film that audiences have basically seen already. “They have joined together Part 1 and Part 2 of Baahubali and added a few scenes. Audiences have already seen both parts of Baahubali many times over, so what is the selling point?”
SS Rajamouli has now confirmed a 3D animation film entitled Baahubali: The Eternal War. It’s not Baahubali 3 but it’s a continuation of the world of Baahubali. He also mentioned that the budget of Baahubali: The Eternal War would be around Rs. 120 crore.
Here we should draw attention to the fact that there were at least two animation film in the past based on the Baahubali franchise. Baahubali: The Lost Legends was an Indian television animation series produced by Arka Media Works and Graphic India. Then as late as last year there was Baahubali: Crown of Blood on Disney+ Hotstar.
So what purpose would another animation version of Baahubali serve? Baahubali producer Shobu Yarlagadda responded exclusively to the 120 crore question: “This is a totally new story and completely new style of animation that we are attempting. While it is based on Baahubali world and universe, it is not not the same story.”
