On Friday, September 5, two Bollywood films and two Hollywood titles clashed at the Indian box office. While Tiger Shroff and Sanjay Dutt’s action thriller Baaghi 4 released alongside Vivek Agnihotri’s political drama The Bengal Files, Hollywood brought in the horror flick The Conjuring: Last Rites and another big international release.
Despite low pre-release hype and mixed audience reactions, Baaghi 4 managed to mint more money than The Bengal Files. Here’s a look at how both Bollywood films performed at the ticket counters.
Baaghi 4 Box Office Collection Day 1:
Tiger Shroff and Sanjay Dutt’s Baaghi 4 opened at the box office with a decent start. On its first Friday, the film collected Rs 12 crore net in India (early estimates).
The latest installment, Baaghi 4, fell short compared to the earlier films in the franchise. While it opened at Rs 12 crore, the figure is no match for Baaghi 3, which had collected Rs 17.5 crore on Day 1, and far below Baaghi 2’s massive Rs 25.10 crore debut. Even the very first Baaghi had managed Rs 11.85 crore.
About Baaghi 4
Directed by Kannada filmmaker A Harsha, Baaghi 4 marks his Bollywood debut and is slated to release on September 5, 2025. The film will also face competition at the box office, clashing with Vivek Agnihotri’s The Bengal Files.
The Baaghi franchise began in 2016 with Tiger Shroff and Shraddha Kapoor, and although parts 1 and 2 were commercial hits, Baaghi 3 received a lukewarm response due to the pandemic’s impact on theatres.
The Bengal Files Box Office Collection Day 1:
Vivek Agnihotri’s political drama The Bengal Files, starring Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi and Darshan Kumaar, had a slow start at the box office. On its opening Friday, the film managed to collect only Rs 1.75 crore net in India (early estimates). Despite the pre release discussions and its sensitive subject, the film failed to draw audiences in large numbers on Day 1, bringing its total to Rs 1.75 crore net.
The film’s release was surrounded by controversy, especially in West Bengal. At the Kolkata launch, the trailer was not played, and reports say no theatres in the state screened the movie. Director Vivek Agnihotri alleged that theatre owners were pressured to avoid showing it. Actress Pallavi Joshi took the matter further, writing an open letter to the President of India, calling it an “unofficial ban,” even though the censor board had raised no objections.
