The movie earned a staggering Rs 40 crore at its Indian theatre debut. The cash registers have been ringing ever since. Daily earnings for the movie have been in the double digits. Avatar 2 made a sizable profit in India over the New Year.

The Indian box office for Avatar: The Way of Water got off to a fantastic start. On December 16, the James Cameron-directed movie brought in Rs. 40.50 crores. Avatar 2 now has the second-highest opening weekend in the Indian market, after only Avengers: Endgame (2019), which brought in Rs 53.10 crore on its first day. On December 31, the movie brought in around Rs 12.50 crore. And on January 1st, it remained moviegoers’ top pick! On January 1, 2023, the film earned around Rs 17 crore. Given that the movie has been out for 17 days and is still making double digits, it is a remarkable achievement.
According to trade figures, Avatar 2 has already earned a total of Rs 333 crore in India. If the streak continues, the movie will be able to surpass Avengers Endgame’s estimated Rs 367 crore Indian domestic gross.
