On Monday, the Academy established some rules about the use of Artificial Intelligence, stating that the use of AI will not have any upsides or downsides in the selection process. AI has come to the level that it can create texts, images, dialogues and also modulate your voice if given the right prompt.

However, the human influence will weigh heavier on the scale when selecting the winners, as AI can give tough competition, but never compete with original human work.

The role of Artificial Intelligence in filmmaking captured the interest when Adrien Brody won the Best Actor award for his role in the movie The Brutalist, where he enhanced his voice for a Hungarian accent with the use of AI. Later on, the use of AI in improving the singing voices in the film Emilia Perez also came into the spotlight, as the movie won an Oscar for Best Musical.

The new guidelines that affirmed the use of Artificial Intelligence were suggested by the Academy’s Science and Technology Council; additionally, the council also made clear that all nominated movies must be watched by the members before they can take part in the final voting.

The new Oscars rules state, “The academy and each branch will judge the achievement, taking into account the degree to which a human was at the heart of the creative authorship when choosing which movie to award.”

Use of AI in India

The use of Artificial Intelligence has also gained fame in India when Narasimha Murthy, a priest from the Siddehalli village near Bengaluru, created a film for the Kannada film industry, with the use of AI. Murthy made a film with a limited budget and resources. Instead of traditional actors, musicians, or crew, he used AI. The movie Love You will be the first Artificial Intelligence-generated film. Narasimha is making this film with the help of Nuthan, a graphic designer who made this dream project possible.
