Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma has hailed the youngest World Chess Champion D Gukesh’s father Dr Rajinikanth as he talked about parents’ sacrifices and duties. For the unversed, the 18-year-old grandmaster defeated champion Ding Liren to win this prestigious title. The actress posted Gukesh’s father’s video on her Instagram story and called his words ‘beautiful’.
Sharing the video, Anushka wrote, “Beautiful words by a champion parent.”
In the video, Dr Rajinikanth said, “Sacrifice is a big word. It is a duty of the parents to give to kids if they are talented in something. When he meant to us… when he started chess career in the beginning stage I could work my career and profession and in the weekends I would go and take him for weekend tournaments or something. Once he was gaining rating and strength we had to travel abroad. One of us, me or my wife, had to take a conscious decision to accompany him for tournaments and someone has to continue practice. I took a decision of travelling with him and my wife took the decision of supporting the family economically. This is natural, any parent will do it for their kids. It is not a big deal for us.”

Meanwhile, the match also got question by the president of the Chess Federation of Russia Andrei Filatov as he accused China’s Ding Liren of losing the World Chess Championship 2024 on purpose.
“The result of the last game caused bewilderment among professionals and chess fans. The actions of the Chinese chess player in the decisive segment are extremely suspicious and require a separate investigation by FIDE. Losing the position in which Ding Liren was is difficult even for a first-class player. The defeat of the Chinese chess player in today’s game raises a lot of questions and looks like a deliberate one.” quoted by Russian news agency TASS.
Gukesh became the youngest world champion in chess after defeating reigning champion Ding in the 14th round.
