Veteran actor Annu Kapoor has started a controversy following his remark on Shah Rukh Khan’s hit film Chak De! India. While talking to ANI, Annu claimed that the makers of the sports drama twisted the facts to fit a communal angle in the film’s story.
Sharing the details of the story that inspired the makers to work on this film, Annu pointed out that it was taken from the life of coach Mir Ranjan Negi. However, the makers decided to show him as Kabir Khan—a Muslim. “The main character in Chak De! India is based on a famous coach, Negi Saab. But in India, they want to show a Muslim as a good character and make fun of a Pandit (Hindu priest). This is something old, where they use the idea of Ganga-Jamuni Tehzeeb (Hindu-Muslim unity) to put a label on it,” shared the actor.
This is not the first comment by Annu Kapoor that has sparked discussion. The actor earlier made a shocking revelation about international icon Priyanka Chopra. In a conversation with ANI, he claimed that Priyanka refused to kiss him because he was not a “hero.” “It’s obvious to me that Priyanka Chopra would’ve had no objection had I been the hero. Here I am, no personality, no looks, that’s why she had a problem. This made her very upset; I don’t know why,” he shared.
Annu Kapoor has carved a niche in the Indian entertainment industry with projects like Ram Lakhan, Mr. India, Tezaab, Ghayal, Om Jai Jagdish, Aitraaz, Bollywood Diaries, 7 Khoon Maaf, and the hit comedy film franchise Dream Girl. He has won several awards, including the prestigious National Film Award for Vicky Donor, which saw him in a supporting role.
