Legendary actress Bhanurekha Ganesan remains Indian cinema’s most versatile and acclaimed actor and performer. During her prime era, she was among the highest-paid actresses and was always in demand due to her multiple box office hits. However, her co-star Ranjeet recently shared his experience of working with her, revealing all the challenges he faced due to her high expectations and arrogant behaviour on sets.
What Did Ranjeet Reveal?
Veteran actor Ranjeet revealed that Rekha had a lot of tantrums on set and said, “I knew she would make producers line up outside her house and wouldn’t meet them. When I was narrating the story to her, I had my whole team waiting outside, she didn’t let them in. I talked to her about it, but she said, ‘let them all wait outside’. ” He also added, “The real reason behind all of this was that she was not on good terms with Amitabh Bachchan at the time, although later they got back to being friends.”
Ranjeet’s Venture Into Filmmaking
As per the Indian Express, Ranjeet recalled the time he decided to make his own films after he got disappointed with the kind of roles being offered to him. “I didn’t sign films for almost 10 years. I used to get frustrated. When I started to make films, irrespective of the bond I shared with the actors, I would pay them for their work. Although they used to hesitate to take money from me, I would insist. Similarly, I told Rekha too, that you are my friend and everything but if I am signing you for a film, I want you to quote me an amount and I will pay you and she did. Later, I realised that someone else who also signed her for one of their films were paying her Rs 5 lakh less than what she had quoted to me.”
Creative Differences
Ranjeet also revealed when Rekha insisted on not shooting in the evenings, which was conflicting with Ranjeet’s scheduled plan. She demanded day shooting since she wanted to go home in the evenings. Moreover, she felt uneasy working with a specific choreographer, which led Ranjeet to change things to suit her. Despite this, he soon came to understand that she could treat him like other producers. To prevent any other complications, he politely asked Rekha to repay the signing money and backed down from the project, ensuring he did it very nicely.
Despite these challenges, Ranjeet emphasized that the decision to part ways was mutual and on friendly terms.
