In the past few years, the Kpop industry has witnessed several suicide cases of popular singers and actors. This raised questions about the pressures these celebrities are dealing with amid their fame.
Take a look at the list of five popular Kpop idols, who talked about their battle with depression and other mental health issues.
BTS’ Suga
BTS rapper Suga talked about his experience with depression while promoting his album ‘D-Day’ and revealed BTS ARMY gave him strength.
In 2021, sharing his battle with mental health, Suga said, “I’m comfortable now and feeling good, but those sorts of negative emotions come and go. So it’s almost like cold weather. It may come back in a cycle over a year, year and a half. It’s very encouraging. I think, for anybody, these emotions are not something that need to be hidden. They need to be discussed and expressed. Whatever emotions that I may be feeling, I’m always ready to express them now, as I was before.”
Twice’s Jeongyeon
In 2021, Jeongyeon announced that she would be taking a break from being a Kpop idol due to “panic and psychological anxiety”. She later assured her worried fans via social media that she would return healthier.

In the 2021 interview with Allure, Jay B revealed he had been taking medication for depression and anxiety and has become more comfortable about his mental health. Talking about the importance of working on mental health, he shared, “It’s best to know where you are, your status, or how you feel. It’s important for the other people, as well, to know you.”
Red Velvet’s Wendy
While speaking at Mysterious Record Shop in 2021, Wendy revealed how consulting a psychologist helped her through dark times. She said, “I started to wonder if I’m in a difficult situation. I wondered if it was okay for me to have a hard time right now. I had a counseling session because I was biting my tail and biting my tail.”
Miss A’s Suzy
Suzy, while speaking at Healing Camp, revealed her mental health was affected because she has been in the spotlight since she was 15.
