David Lynch, the maverick director known for his surreal masterpieces like Mulholland Drive and the groundbreaking TV series Twin Peaks, has passed away at 78. Lynch, who had been battling emphysema following years of heavy smoking, left behind a legacy that redefined cinema and television. His family released an emotional statement, saying, “There’s a big hole in the world now that he’s no longer with us. But, as he would say, ‘Keep your eye on the donut and not on the hole.'”

A Battle With Emphysema

Just last year, Lynch spoke candidly about his deteriorating health due to emphysema. In August, he revealed the severe breathing issues he was facing, describing it as akin to having “a plastic bag around your head.” By November, he admitted to struggling with daily activities, saying, “I can hardly walk across a room.”

(Backwards and in Swedish).”
