After impressing audiences with a variety of roles, Vicky Kaushal is set to step into the world of mythological action drama with Mahavatar. However, fans will have to wait a little longer, as director Amar Kaushik, known for his hit horror comedies Stree and Bhediya recently confirmed that the film’s release has been postponed from its original December 2026 date.
Kaushik described Mahavatar as one of the most personal and spiritually significant projects of his career, calling it a story that “came from God.”
In an interview with PTI, he revealed that the film has been years in the making and is inspired by his childhood experiences near Parashuram Kund in Arunachal Pradesh. “This film is a very big responsibility for me in my career. It has come from God because this character has been with me since childhood. We used to live next to the Parashuram Kund in Arunachal Pradesh and visited it often. This was a ritual at our home, and every visit would fascinate me deeply,” Kaushik said.
The filmmaker said that although he always wanted to tell this story, he first found it difficult to bring its scale to the big screen. “I didn’t know how to approach it because it needed significant resources and extensive VFX. I also wanted to ensure it remained true to the vision in my mind,” he explained.
Preparations for Mahavatar including set design and costumes are underway, with filming expected to begin in 2026 after Vicky Kaushal completes his current projects. Kaushik praised Vicky as the perfect fit for the lead, saying, “Whenever I meet him, I see a lot of purity in him. He is the best person to portray this character.”
During a chat with Bollywood Hungama, Amar Kaushik confirmed the delay, saying, “Yes. The prep is going on for 6-7 months. Mujhe toh soch ke hi darr lag raha hai. We have worked on the set design, weapon design, how every character would look, etc. The scripting is done. Yet, we need more time. Vicky will finish his other commitments, and after that, he’ll also start his preparation. Hence, we hope to go on floors by mid-next year.”
