Alice in Borderland: Will there be a Season 4? Here’s what the season 3 ending hints

Alice in Borderland Season 3 is here, bringing deadlier games and higher stakes as Usagi and Arisu return to the Borderland.

Alice in Borderland Season 3 has generated massive excitement among audiences worldwide. Released on Netflix on September 25, the Japanese series returns with a new season that raises the stakes higher than ever following the success of the previous seasons.

The second season, released in December 2022, ended on a suspenseful note. Usagi (Tao Tsuchiya) and Arisu (Kento Yamazaki) managed to return to the real world, hopeful about their future, but the scene concluded with a focus on a Joker card. In the third season, the story picks up years later, with Usagi and Arisu now happily married. However, their peace doesn’t last long, as Arisu has to go back into the Borderlands to rescue Usagi. This kicks off the deadly games all over again.

With Season 3 now streaming, fans are already asking the big question: will there be a Season 4?

What’s Next for Netflix’s Hit Series?

After Arisu and Usagi return to the real world, Japan is hit by huge earthquakes. News reports warn of tectonic shifts happening around the world, signaling a new global crisis beyond the Borderlands.

In a surprising twist, the scene shifts to an American diner where a waitress named “Alice” is shown. This hints that the deadly games might spread internationally, with new players and tougher challenges in future seasons.

Netflix seems to be following the strategy of shows like Squid Game, expanding the story globally. If there’s a Season 4, it could feature an international version of the Borderlands with a new main character while still involving Arisu and Usagi.

Although Netflix hasn’t confirmed Season 4, the creative team seems eager to continue. Director Shinsuke Sato told RadioTimes.com, “If you’re asking me whether I’d be interested or not, I would certainly say yes.”

As for the story, Season 4 could feature new characters, possibly from America, expanding the Borderlands universe. Actress Tao Tsuchiya (Usagi) also suggested a potential storyline where a child enters Borderland, “I have a premise where the child will find themselves in Borderland and the parents have to go in and save them,” she told Radio Times. “The kids don’t understand the world at all but then the parents do.”

She went on, “If it were a one-off show or film, then it would be us clearing the games by ourselves, without a child. But this is something that’s possible because it’s a show over a couple of seasons. We’d love for our own life experiences that come with our age to be projected into the story. I’m holding my hand out into the ether and hope one of the producers will be listening!”
