New Delhi: While filming the Harry Potter series, Alan Rickman, who is most known for playing Snape, used to keep a journal in which he would record his astute observations from the set. In October 2022, ‘Madly, Deeply: The Alan Rickman Diaries’—a book that chronicled his decade-long involvement with the Harry Potter movies—was published. Daniel Radcliffe was once criticised by Rickman in his journal, who claimed that he wasn’t an actor.
For the uninitiated, Alan lost his battle with cancer and died in 2016. The late actor once said that he had considered leaving the Harry Potter series because he saw no future for his character, Snape, but that he had changed his mind after J.K. Rowling revealed a secret to him.
On the same, he shared, “One small piece of information from Jo Rowling seven years ago – Snape loved Lily – gave me a cliff edge to hang on to.”
Along with criticising Radcliffe, Rickman also voiced his disapproval of Emma Watson’s diction. These kids require directing, he later added when filming The Prisoner of Azkaban. They don’t know their lines, and Emma Watson’s language occasionally sounds like it belongs in Albania. For the uninitiated, Radcliffe responded to the publication of Rickman’s journal on a talk programme.
According to Daily Express, the late actor in his journal wrote, “Serious and focused – but with a sense of fun.” Rickman continued, “I still don’t think he’s really an actor but he will undoubtedly direct/produce.” Apart from commenting on Radcliffe, Rickman also expressed his concern towards Emma Watson’s diction. He later added during the shoot of The Prisoner of Azkaban, “These kids need directing. They don’t know their lines and Emma (Watson)’s diction is this side of Albania at times.”
After the journal was published, Daniel reacted to it. In a talk show Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, the Harry Potter star said, “I would love to, definitely directing. Producing seems like all the hard parts of the industry without any of the fun.” He added, “So I don’t really have an interest in doing that, but yeah I would love to [direct].”
