Akshay Kumar has come out in support of the OTT platform at a time when several actors expressed their opinions against it. In a recent interview, the ‘Jolly LLB 3’ shared that the industry blames the OTT platforms when their films fail, but don’t consider whether good films are being made or not.
While speaking to ABP Live, Akshay showed his support for OTT platforms. He revealed, “According to me, a three-month gap is okay. Six months is too long because at the end of the day, the OTT platform is paying you for the digital rights. They also need to benefit from the deal.”
He added, “When it comes to digital rights sale, producers happily take money from the OTT platform. But when we want to, we also conveniently say our films aren’t working because of OTT. We don’t consider that maybe we’re not making the right films.”
“I don’t have any other work than making movies. Since I’m not educated, I do only movies. So, I get a lot of time to watch OTT,” the actor further said.
For the unversed, Aamir Khan earlier expressed that the theatrical business is not working properly, as the eight-week gap for the OTT release is too short.
At the Waves Summit 2025, he said, “Earlier, films would come in theatres and a year later it would be on satellite. Then it came down to 8 months, 6 months. What happens is I have a choice as the audience to watch the film in theatres as it releases or wait for six months to watch it on satellite.”
He further added, “If I have to be honest with my audience while marketing my film, I have to tell them my film is releasing, but all those who are on a particular subscription have bought my film, they don’t need to come to the theatres. The ones who are not on this OTT, please come. This is the communication I have to make with honesty, but it is awkward. The window between theatrical and OTT is too small. You’re killing your own business.”
Aamir’s ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ was released on YouTube after its theatrical run.
