New Delhi: Akshay Kumar and Aanand L Rai’s Raksha Bandhan has managed to get a rare ‘U’ certification. The Central Board of Film Certification has cleared Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar starrer Raksha Bandhan.
What is a rare ‘U’ Certification?
Generally, all films are rated with a U/A certificate, which means they are open for unrestricted public exhibition subject to parental guidance for children below the age of 12. Now getiing a rare U certification means that the film is completely unrestricted and family friendly.
It is surprising that, Aanand L Rai’s Raksha Bandhan has got the nod for ‘U’ certificate. The story revolves around a brother and his unmarried sisters, who fit the qualifications of a common man. Lala Kedarnath (Akshay Kumar) wants to get his four sisters married (played by Sahejmeen Kaur, Deepika Khanna, Sadia Khateeb and Smrithi Srikanth), and is relentless in his efforts.
Directed by Aanand L Rai, Raksha Bandhan is written by Himanshu Sharma and Kanika Dhillon. Music for Rakshabandhan is given by Himesh Reshammiya and lyrics are by Irshad Kamil.
Raksha Bandhan starring Bhumi Pednekar, Akshay Kumar, Neeraj Sood, Seema Pahwa, Saadia Khatib, Abhilash Thapliyal, Deepika Khanna, Smriti Shrikant and Sahajmin Kaur is all set to release on 11th August 2022.
The movie is produced by Aanand L Rai and Himanshu Sharma in association with Zee Studios, Alka Hiranandani and Cape of Good Films.
In a recent interview, director Rai said, “For me, this is more of a personal victory. I got down to making a clean family entertainer. That was definitely the thought when I was making Tanu Weds Manu (2011) and Tanu Weds Manu Returns (2015), too. But I got a U/A certificate for them. It hardly makes a difference, but it’s a moral victory for me.”
