Actor Ajaz Khan is seeking bail from the Bombay High Court ahead of any arrest in the rape case where he allegedly made false promises. A struggling actress filed a complaint with the Charkop police earlier this month.
On May 22, the vacation judge Shyam Chandak heard Khan’s plea and asked the state government to submit its response by June 2. But the court did not agree to grant the actor interim relief at this moment.
Khan tried to get bail from the Dindoshi sessions court before, but it was denied. The judge said that, in the light of the accusations, the relationship between the complainant and the accused could not reasonably be considered consensual stating, “Though the victim is major, considering allegations it appears that consent is not free and unequivocally within the meaning of law.” It also pointed out the need for finding digital evidence which required searching the actor’s phone, as well as his WhatsApp conversations and his voice records and calls.

Khan has been accused by the complainant of using his popularity and his hosting role in the reality show to get her to trust him. It was alleged by the FIR that on April 4 and April 24, Khan asked the woman to indulge in sexual activities by saying he would marry her and help her in the film industry. The woman claims that her consent was manipulated and not freely given.
In his defense, Khan has stated that the complainant was fully aware that he is married and that their relationship was mutual and consensual. He also alleged that the woman later demanded money in exchange for withdrawing the complaint, and has presented chats and audio messages to support his claims.
As of now, the court awaits the state’s response by June 2, after which a decision on Khan’s bail plea will be taken.
