Director Aishwarya Rajinikanth and actor-director Dhanush on Sunday filed for divorce at the Chennai family court. Sources close to the couple informed India Today that they have initiated the process under Section 13 B, which pertains to divorce by mutual consent. The decision to end their marriage was announced by the couple in January 2022, which came as a surprise to their followers.
Nearly a year and a half later, they have formally filed for divorce by mutual consent, and their case is set to be heard soon. The couple has been living separately for the past two years, although they have been spotted together at their sons, Yatra and Linga’s school events following the announcement of their separation.

On January 17, 2022, Dhanush disclosed their decision to separate on social media. After 18 years of marriage, they decided to go their separate ways.
In his statement, Dhanush expressed, “After 18 years of togetherness as friends, a couple, and parents, we find ourselves at a juncture where our paths diverge. Aishwaryaa and I have chosen to end our marriage and take time to rediscover ourselves as individuals for our personal growth.”
A similar message was shared by Aishwarya on her social media platform. Both urged for privacy as they navigate through this transition.

Since their separation, both Dhanush and Aishwarya have been focusing on their respective careers. Aishwarya made a comeback as a director with ‘Lal Salaam’, featuring Rajinikanth in an extended cameo. Dhanush has been busy with numerous acting projects and his second directorial venture, ‘Raayan’.
