Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has approached the Delhi High Court asking for a ban on people using her name, photos, or AI-generated content without permission, Bar and Bench reported. Her lawyer, Sandeep Sethi, told the court that her pictures are being misused online, including fake, AI-created images.
The Delhi High Court on Tuesday indicated that it will issue an order to protect the personality and publicity rights of Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. This means others cannot use her name, photo, or voice for money or promotion without her consent.
Justice Tejas Karia also said the court will tell platforms to take down web links (URLs) that misuse her identity. “We will pass order against each of the defendant, the prayers are wide. If we can pass common order. We will pass injunction separately,” the Bar and Bench quoted Tejas Karia.
On behalf of the actress, advocates Praveen Anand and Dhruv Anand said that many companies are taking illegal advantage of her identity. It was also alleged in the suit that her pictures are being circulated by changing them in pornographic form and her reputation is being damaged by misusing her name and image. Senior advocate Sandeep Sethi argued on her behalf that “her pictures and name are being used to satisfy the sexual desires of people.”
Previous Cases
Before Aishwarya Rai, actor Jackie Shroff had also gone to court in May, saying his photos and videos were being misused to sell products and make money without his permission. The court protected his rights.
Earlier, in 2023, the court stopped people from misusing actor Anil Kapoor’s name, photos, voice, and even his famous “jhakaas” catchphrase for profit, as reported by Hindustan Times. Back in November 2022, the court had also stepped in to protect Amitabh Bachchan’s personality and publicity rights from being misused.
