Stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra is at the center of controversy after making remarks about Maharashtra Deputy Minister Eknath Shinde. In his latest Post on X, kamra took a jibe at the Maharashtra government, offering a satirical “step-by-step guide” on how to “kill” an artist “democratically.”
In his post, Kamra humorously explains how outrage over an artist’s work can slowly shut down their career. His ‘guide’ describes several steps, each worsening the situation for the artist:
- Step 1: “Outrage” causes brands to stop hiring the artist.
- Step 2: The outrage continues, leading to fewer private and corporate gigs.
- Step 3: Outrage grows louder, and even large venues stop hosting the artist.
- Step 4: The outrage becomes violent, and even small venues shut their doors.
- Step 5: The audience is summoned for questioning, turning the artist’s performance into a crime scene.
Kamra finishes by saying the artist is left with two choices: either sell out and become a puppet for money or stay silent and fade away. He calls this a “political weapon” and “a silencing machine.”

Reference to Police Summons
Kamra’s post comes after reports that Mumbai Police allegedly sent summons to people who attended his recent show, Naya Bharat, for questioning. This is related to his controversial remarks about Eknath Shinde. Kamra sarcastically referred to the situation, saying that the police were even going to an old address where he hadn’t lived for ten years. He called this a waste of time and public resources.
Legal Issues and Complaints Against Kamra
Earlier, three separate complaints were filed against Kamra at the Khar Police Station for his comments about Eknath Shinde. One complaint came from the Mayor of Jalgaon, and the other two were filed by a hotelier and a businessman from Nashik. Kamra has been summoned by the police for questioning three times, but he has not appeared yet.
Kamra Gets Bail
Despite the ongoing investigations, Kunal Kamra was granted interim anticipatory bail by the Madras High Court on March 28. This means that he cannot be arrested until April 7, under certain conditions. Kamra had asked for the bail because he claimed to be receiving threats due to his satirical comments.
