New Delhi: Actor Sameer Khakhar well known for his part in the classic television series Nukkad is no more. He was 71. The actor was taken to the MM Hospital in Borivali with respiratory and other medical issues, where he passed away. Today at 10.30 am, his funeral will leave for Babhai Naka Cemetery in Borivali.
Sameer Khakhar ‘s brother Ganesh spoke to a media organization, “He experienced some respiratory issues yesterday morning, we called the doctor home and he asked to get him admitted. So we took him to the hospital and he was admitted to the ICU. He then had multiple organ failure and today at 4.30 am he collapsed.” His wife is the only one left.

The actor participated in a variety of media throughout a nearly four-decade career and collaborated with top talent both in front of and behind the camera. He went to the US and began working as a Java developer after regularly working in the 1990s. When the recession hit in 2008, he returned to India and pursued his first love, acting. The actor expressed excitement about performing in front of the camera once more in a 2021 interview with indianexpress.com, but he also said that his approach is a little “old-school” and that he struggles to “sell” himself.
What Sameer Khakhar said after Nukkad’s success?
Considering the success of Nukkad, which was helmed by Kundan Shah and Saeed Akhtar Mirza, the actor told the media outlet, “After Nukkad, most people gave me similar roles. Having started my character on stage, and then doing some wonderful parts, I understand acting. And no artiste with a rational mind would accept doing the same thing again and again. Also, Khopdi was a character that was created with a lot of care by Saeed Mirza. It was very different and humane, and the team had nurtured it with so much love. While everyone wanted to use me as Khopdi, I had decided to not destroy the character.”

Khakhar also starred in shows such as Manorajan, Circus, Naya Nukkad, Shrimaan Shrimati, and Adaalat. He most recently appeared in Farzi on Prime Video, the ZEE5 sitcom Sunflower, and the Netflix feature Serious Men by Sudhir Mishra.
