TV Actor Ashish Kapoor has been granted bail by Delhi’s Tis Hazari Court in the alleged rape case. For the unversed, he was arrested on September 3 after a woman accused him of sexual assault during a house party. Apart from granting him, Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) Bhupinder Singh also directed the actor to furnish a bail bond of Rs 1 lakh and a surety.
According to ETimes, ASJ Singh ordered, “Thus, in view of the aforesaid observations and discussions, the facts and circumstances that have been brought to the notice of the court in view of the documents/ CCTV footages, in particular that the accused is not required for the purpose of investigation any more, being permanent resident of Delhi and his clean antecedents, I find merits in the bail application and the same is accordingly allowed.”
The court also found that the grounds for police custody remand were insufficient, given the accused’s stable life, permanent house and business obligations and wouldn’t have refused to cooperate with the police.
While pointing out the lapses in the investigation, the court added, “Despite having been taken on PC remand, no sincere efforts were made to recover the mobile phone. No searches, as per law, were carried out. There is nothing on record that the accused did not cooperate in the investigations.”

Meanwhile, Ashish Kapoor’s advocate, Deepak Sharma, in the court, argued that the allegations against the actor were false and had been made to extort money.
The woman initially alleged multiple attackers but later named only Kapoor, which reportedly took place inside a washroom at the party venue. The complainant also alleged that the assault had been filmed, but police stated that no such footage had been recovered so far.
She further accused the friend’s wife of physically attacking her outside the washroom. The complainant reportedly alerted the police via a PCR call.
